US Open 2020

June 17, 2020

This was my best US open to date where I made the final for the first time

my first match was against French no 1 Mattheiu Sarlangue in the QF

This was a touch match to play for my first match in the tournament. Mattheiu is very talented and can be handful. He also already had a match.

I was able to win the match 6/4 6/2 6/4. I played very solidly and was happy to close out the first and 3rd set when Mattheiu was making a come back. my next opponent is world no 3 Ben Taylor Matthews in the semi final

fortunately I was able to put 3 good sets of tennis together to beat Ben Taylor Matthews 6-2 6-2 6-4 and make my first US Open final. I returned the ball well and kept Ben under pressure. I stumbled a little bit to close out the match as at 4/2 30 love up and returning the serve really well, Ben brought out a drag and and 3 serves in a row it was perfect and I couldn’t put a could return back. This rattled me and I lost the game and suddenly found my self 40-15 down so Ben had a couple points to make it 4 all. It did really well to dig in and take the game to go 5-3 up. In the next game I had a match point put didn’t take it. Fortunately I played a pretty good 10th game to close the set and win the match.

Before I played the final I had the doubles SF the day before.

John and I lost in the doubles in 5 long sets. 6/4 6/5 3/6 5/6 6/4. The match took over over 4 hours. we went on at 5 and finished at 9.40pm . We  blew a good lead in the first when we were and 4/1 up with points to go 5/1 up. We started to over think shots on lose balls and made some silly errors. Same in the second set where we started well but led our lead slip.the 3rd set we started well like the first two sets but this time we finished strong to close out the set. The 4th set we were always fighting it felt to keep up with the scoreboard and managed to pinch the set 6/5 . The last set was close and John and I went 4/3 up with points for 5/3 but didn’t take them and unfortunately we lost the match.

The singles final against Camden Riviere was very one sided. My legs were very heavy after the 4 hour 30 min match. When we went in to a 4th said i should of made John play back the whole time. it's a learning experience

I lost 6/1 6/1 6/1. I was still very proud to of made my 2nd grand slam final
